18th June 2022 Zahra Khoshkam's PhD Thesis Defense

Today Zahra successfully defended her Ph.D. Thesis, titled: "Study on the effects of ambient PM2.5 of Tehran city on the pathogenesis of Sporadic Alzheimer's disease (SAD) associated with Hypoxia perturbation and heme degradation" and officially became Dr. Zahra Khoshkam. We at PBRL cnogradulate and wish her the best in her research journey.

5th February 2020-PBRL Session (Current Topics in Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Function)

AHR is a multidomain transcription factor with a broad spectrum of protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions. It plays a principal role in many diseases and studying its polymorphisms may lead to the discovery of SNP markers. ISNPranker web tool was developed for ranking of SNPs on the base of their dangerous effects and then it was used to analyze coding variations of the human AHR gene.

In this workshop, students learned how to work with "Scopus" and " Web of Science" websites in detail. Therefore, they got familiar with these two useful literature resources in order to improve their research skills.

13th May 2019- PBRL session (Presentation on magnetid nanoparticles)

One of the interesting interdisciplinary topics refer to relation and correlation of biology to material science, was presented and disgusted in this meeting. The subject was about "interaction of synthesized magnetic nanoparticles by lysozyme amyloid fibrils".
the experimental results showed the effects of different ratios of Functionalized Fe3O4 on the anti-fibrillation and de-fibrillation of lysozyme fibrils.

15th April 2019- PBRL session (Presentation on glucose oxidase in honey)

In this session was reported information about glucose oxidase (GOX) activity in honey. The content of GOX can be a marker for the determination of honey purity. Bees add the GOX to honey through their saliva. Then, GOX converts glucose to hydrogen peroxide and gluconolactone in diluted honey. In fact, antibacterial activity of honey depends on the formation of H₂O₂ generated from GOX reaction. So, detection of H₂O₂ can evaluate glucose oxidase activity.
